Exit Medea
Synopsis
EXIT MEDEA envisions the Greek myth of Medea as a horror road movie.
Torn between loyalty to her family, and her love for Jason, Medea attacks her father and flees with Jason to unknown lands. When Jason betrays and abandons her, she is driven to the ultimate act of vengeful destruction. A collage of poetic language, images and genres, where action takes place in a pre-rational, mythic dreamscape of ritual, violence and blood sacrifice.
Bio-filmography of the director
In addition to filmmaking, Tony Paraskeva is also an Associate Professor at the University of Roehampton, and has published two books on modernism and cinema. EXIT MEDEA is his first feature.
Director's note
EXIT MEDEA combines Greek ritual, poetic dialogue, modernist film style and the language of genre - the surrealist logic of giallo, the road movie, film noir - to tell the origin story of an ancient revenge tragedy.
