Caustics

Synopsis

A man alone holds a beam. His task is clear: he holds the beam that holds the building, huge arms coiled, body fused with work. It's an absolute dedication that takes up all the time. One day like many others, the city continues to exist. The man sees that he no longer holds anything, but he does not remember anything about himself anymore. He clings to the axis that supports the void. He holds on.

Director's note

We start from here: to understand extreme tiredness as a common condition. We felt it intensely in our own lives. In the lack of sleep and in the images that appear in dreams. The difficulty in maintaining the networks of affection. In constant haste. To work and even while working, quiet and tense in front of a computer. To stretch the time, do more and, in the end, everything seems incomplete or even multiplied. To feel that so many people live the same way, in the same loneliness. We set out to create an image-situation that would represent and allow us to explore a state of suspended and permanent crisis. The strange balance of always being on the verge of a collapse that is announced in the body and in the imagination.
