Histories of wolves
Synopsis
“Histories of Wolves” is a collection of stories about wolves in the northern mountains of Portugal. Among the rocky ranges, there is a village called Pitões das Junias. At nightfall, shepherds gather and tell stories. Myths, legends, stories of death, are told. These tales of werewolves and humans are as alive now as they were centuries ago.
Bio-filmography of the director
Agnes Meng graduated from the School of Journalism and Communication of Tsinghua University. She has the Master's Degree Doc Nomads Erasmus Joint Master. Agnes has a background in filmmaking, journalism and anthropology. Her first documentary "Histories of Wolves" premiered at 25th Hotdocs, it was selected for more than 50 film festivals, among which the 15th Indielisboa, 22nd Full Frame Documentary Film Festival, it won the best short documentary award at 21st Guanajuato International Film Festival in Mexico, becoming eligible for the Oscars in 2019, among other 12 awards.
Director's note
This film presents an eerie and timeless feeling, a feeling as though something is in the air, an atmosphere of the things we know from the stories people tell.
However, because the stories are not told anymore, there is a mixture of feeling horror but also a loss, a kind of melancholy that stays, surrounds and embraces the reality.
